When should I get there? Do I need to be early?
You do not have to arrive at the studio until your appointment time. We schedule some extra time into each appointment to account for introductions. This gives us the opportunity to greet each other, fill out and review intake paperwork, talk about what you’re looking for, and get settled in for your massage. At your first visit with us you will receive a copy of the massage therapy policies and will be asked to sign the consent form stating that you have read the information, understand it, and agree to comply with our standards and practices. Your initial intake form will ask several health history questions - it is important to answer these honestly to make sure you are safe and your massage provides the most relief. Before each massage we will ask you a few questions about how your body is feeling that day, where you might like extra focus, anywhere you may want to avoid, or things you’d like to change from the last session.
Generally, we recommend expecting about 30 minutes in addition to your appointment time to accommodate for intake, dressing and undressing, and taking your time as you prepare to continue your day.
Things happen, and sometimes things are out of our control. We ask that you contact us as soon as you know that you may be running late, so we can schedule and accommodate accordingly.
The massage is about to begin… what do I do now?
After we discuss your needs for the session and you are able to ask any questions you may have, your therapist will show you to the massage room before stepping out and allowing you to undress and make yourself comfortable on the table under the linens.
You are welcome to undress to your comfort level. Most clients fully undress or undress to their underwear. Only the area on which the therapist is working will be draped and exposed; the rest of you will be covered and cozy for the entirely of the massage. If you have any questions about what is appropriate or ways we can accommodate your comfort, let your therapist know.
During your massage
Your therapist will check in during the course of the massage to ask about pressure and comfort. Feel free at any time to let your therapist know if the sensations are too light, too deep, or uncomfortable for any reason. We are happy to adjust pressure, temperature, musical volume, work longer on an area or move on if you request it.
You may also choose to: leave on as much clothing as needed for comfort, refuse any massage methods, or stop the massage at any time. You may choose to talk or not talk during the massage; conversation will be guided by the client’s direction. Though keep in mind, your therapist is giving their techniques their full attention.
Injuries, tender spots, and surgery sites are all important details to tell your massage therapist. These areas can then be treated specifically and accordingly, so as to not injure or cause pain, and to promote healing, ease of use, and wellbeing
There can be other tender or sensitive sites on our bodies that are less easy to describe but just as impactful. Trauma can reside in parts of our bodies that we don’t even notice, and occasionally we won’t know until the massage therapist is working through the area. This process varies wildly in experience and intensity, and can contribute overall to a goal of relief and relaxation. However if at any time you wish for a technique to stop, adjust pressure, or continue working with care, you are encouraged to let your therapist know. Your safety is a priority and your comfort and wellbeing are of the utmost importance.
We’re finished for now
At the end of your massage, your therapist will let you know your session is ending. They will leave the room to allow you to come back into the space. Feel free to take a few deep breaths on the table, take your time to adjust, and dress. Help yourself to a snack and let us know what you liked most for your next session on the way out.
What won’t be happening
Massage Therapy is a profession in which the practitioner applies manual techniques, and may apply adjunctive therapies, with the intention of positively affecting the health and well-being of the client. However, massage practitioners do not diagnose or prescribe for medical conditions. We may refer you to a medical doctor for diagnosis or treatment, and our services are not intended as an alternative for proper medical attention for specific conditions. Please refer to a medical doctor for any specific condition which requires medical treatment.
Sexual interaction or discussion of any kind between the client and the massage practitioner is never appropriate. If the massage therapist feel that this line has been crossed, the session will be terminated immediately. All clients are empowered with the same right and freedom. It is our utmost concern that all clients feel safe and secure.
